European Researchers’ Night 2023 at IMDEA
With the goal of raising awareness about the need to efficiently use resources to build a circular and sustainable world already among the youngest, IMDEA Energy took part in the European Researchers’ Night on September 29, 2023.
The target audience of this event were children between the ages of 5 to 10. They were able to experience research work during different interactive workshops adapted to that age in a fun way with the final goal to make them familiar with abstract concepts such as energy storage in batteries.
Consequently, the way a redox flow battery is built in MeBattery is too complicated to be shown to the children, however, in one of the experiments, the IMDEA researchers were assembling a battery using abundant and available elements. In this case, a lemon acts as the electrolyte of the battery. Then that lemon-battery is used to light an LED.
Almost 200 children between the ages of 5 to 10 took part in the event together with their families.
