Junior Scientist Initiative of the MLDES Portfolio

On 9 September 2024, David Arnaiz Gil from Burgos University participated in the Junior Scientist initiative of the EIC Portfolio “Mid to Long Term and Systems Integrated Energy Storage” in which the MeBattery project has been involved since 2023.

The Junior Scientist initiative has the goal to connect young researchers working in the different energy storage projects of the portfolio. It gives them the chance to network, exchange and present their ideas. The first online workshop was entitled: "Life Cycle Assessment for Energy Storage Systems: Exploring Challenges and Solutions” and was held by Dr. Claudia Mair-Bauernfeind from Karl-Franzens University Graz. During the session different aspects of how a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is performed on energy storage devices were discussed. In addition, a case study of an Organic Redox Flow Battery was presented. The importance of having the sustainability of our research in mind was particularly highlighted.

In the next meeting of the workshop series, junior researchers will present the projects they are working on and their role in them. This will give the young researchers a place to exchange ideas, delve into discussions and learn from each other.
