MeBattery crosses the Ocean – ISE Topical Meeting in Natal, Brazil
In March 2025, Carla Santana Santos and Wolfgang Schuhmann from Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) crossed the Atlantic Ocean to spread the word about MeBattery in Brazil.
They were invited by Prof Dr Gabriel Negrao Meloni from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and Prof Dr Daniel Grasseschi from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) to share their research progress with the universities’ Chemistry Institutes. They focused on showing their contribution to micro-/nanoelectrochemical tools for energy storage and energy conversion in two presentations:
- “From high-throughput catalyst discovery and nanoelectrochemistry to electrolyzers for energy conversion reactions” by Wolfgang Schuhmann
- “Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy as tool for investigating charge-transfer processes at interfaces of energy storage devices: from Li batteries to beyond-Li batteries” by Carla Santa Santos
The room was packed with approx. 150 people, students as well as staff members, joining the session.
From there, the RUB team moved on to Natal to attend the 39th ISE Topical Meeting that took place from 23-26 March 2025 under the topic of “The role of electrochemistry in sustainable energy and the environment”. The meeting curriculum was divided into three symposiums: 1) Clean, renewable and new energy systems, 2) Environmental electrochemistry, and 3) The coupling of degradation and power generation by photocatalytic fuel cells (PFC).
Carla and Wolfgang contributed with two presentations to symposium 1:
- "Micro-/nanoelectrochemical Tools for Investigating Charge-Transfer Processes for Mediated-Redox Flow Battery"
- "From high-throughput electrocatalysts discovery to hybrid model electrolyzers for coupling hydrogen generation or CO2 reduction with unusual anode reactions"
With over 200 participants the conference was well visited.
